General Anaesthetic

Pacific Smiles Dental understands that dental visits can be overwhelming and can cause high levels of anxiety for some patients. Often this level of anxiety can discourage patients from visiting the dentist and having required treatments.

patients can choose to have their dental treatment under a
general anaesthetic.

General anaesthetic procedures are carried out in private hospitals using the latest in specialised dental equipment and materials. Patients are required to visit a Pacific Smiles Dental Care Centre for a consultation and x-rays. Arrangements are then made with the appropriate private hospital where their treatment will be undertaken by an accredited dentist from Pacific Smiles Dental.

Dental treatments under general anaesthetic offer patients benefits. Such as:

• Sleep through – patients sleep through their entire dental procedure unaware of the sight, smell and sounds, easing fear, anxiety and discomfort.

• Comfort – patients are relieved of the discomfort of long
  and complex procedures.

• Safety – patients can rest assured that their procedure and anaesthesia is being managed within a hospital operating theatre environment with specialised equipment and personnel on hand.

• Time effectiveness - patients can often have multiple dental treatments completed in one session rather than multiple visits to the Dental Care Centre.

Children and adults alike can have any procedure performed whilst asleep including fillings, crowns, multiple extractions, removal of wisdom teeth and implant placements. It is particularly beneficial for younger children who are much more comfortable having their treatment
under general anaesthetic.

The staff at the participating private hospitals work closely with the Pacific Smiles Dental team to ensure that the patient’s hospital experience is comfortable, safe and efficient. Most dental patients are admitted as day only patients and are discharged within 3 hours of their operation.

The anaesthetic is administered by qualified anaesthetists who are experienced in dental anaesthetics. All patients are thoroughly evaluated for their suitability for a general anaesthetic prior to the procedure.

General anaesthetic treatments performed in private hospitals are available to patients with or without private health insurance.

All procedures at Pacific Smiles Dental Care Centres are carried out using state-of-the-art equipment in modern, friendly facilities which offer the convenience of extended opening hours. Sterilisation and infection control practices at Pacific Smiles Dental are subject to the highest quality standards for the health and safety of patients, employees and practitioners.
